Men like to brag about their prowess in bed and how they can put on quite a show under the sheets. Of course, this is just ‘locker room talk’ or male bravado as reports and surveys suggest that most men are selfish lovers or simply inadequate. Now, many may jump to the conclusion that inadequacy is linked to the size of genitalia, but this isn’t the case. Sexual performance in men has more to do with endurance, stamina, attentiveness to partners, and the ability to last longer in bed. While selflessness and attentiveness are virtues that you will need to work on yourself, sexual dysfunction like premature ejaculation is a very real problem that you simply can’t wish away. Fortunately, there are plenty of effective treatments for premature ejaculation that can provide quick relief.
Premature ejaculation treatment involves a variety of approaches, including medication, psychological tricks, physical exercises, and natural sex power oil or herbal medicine. While pharmaceutical medications like serotonin reuptake inhibitors (also used to treat depression and anxiety) can relieve the problem, they cause side effects like low libido. This is why natural treatments are preferable. Here are some of the best home remedies for premature ejaculation.
Home Remedies for Premature Ejaculation
Pelvic Floor Exercises
We tend to associate pelvic strengthening exercises with women’s health and as a treatment for urinary incontinence. However, exercises of this type, like Kegel exercises, can also improve your ability to control and delay ejaculation. Pelvic floor muscle exercises can help as they strengthen and improve control over the same muscles that are involved in the process of ejaculation. By gaining control and increased strength in these muscles, men can better control orgasms. This is not just theoretical, as research also suggests that just 12 weeks of practice can improve climax time.
Mental Distraction
This is a psychological trick that can work for many men. This is one of the simplest and easiest tips to try. Simply focus on thoughts that are completely unrelated to sexual activity or your partner when you feel like you are close to reaching orgasm; in fact, the more nonsexual your thoughts the better. So, thinking of a conversation from work, daily chores, or math calculations would suffice. Of course, the efficacy of this technique will depend on the underlying cause as psychological remedies cannot yield results if the underlying cause is physical.
Orgasm Control
Popularly known as ‘edging’ or the ‘stop start’ technique, orgasm control can effectively delay ejaculation by allowing you to slow down and prolong pleasure. To practice this technique, simply stop your sexual activity as soon as you feel that you are close to ejaculating. Once your arousal levels start to drop significantly you can resume the sexual activity again. This method can be used repeatedly and as frequently as needed until you develop stronger control over ejaculation.
Pause-Squeeze
This is a technique that is recommended by some gynecologists, but it will require help from your partner. Similar to the previous trick, it works by reducing arousal shortly before climax, thereby helping delay it. When you sense that you are close to orgasm, take a break from the activity and instruct your partner to squeeze the end of the penis, just below the head. The squeeze will need to be held for a few seconds, until the urge to climax has passed. This technique can be used repeatedly as needed. Over time, it may be possible to delay ejaculation without requiring this method.
Nutritional Supplements
In some cases, premature ejaculation and male sexual problems can develop as a result of nutritional deficiencies. This has always been alluded to in Ayurved, as healthy nutrition is regarded as the cornerstone of health. When it comes to premature ejaculation, there are two main nutrients that are known to be responsible.
Magnesium – A study that appeared in the Asian Journal of Andrology found that premature ejaculation is frequently linked to magnesium deficiency because of magnesium’s role in muscle function. This affects the muscle contractions involved in ejaculation and improving magnesium intake can provide relief from the problem.
Zinc – Known as an essential mineral for immune function and cellular growth, studies also show that the mineral plays an important role in male sexual health. In addition to helping with the production of testosterone to boost libido and endurance, researchers found that zinc deficiency has a higher association with male sexual dysfunction. So, improving zinc intake may also increase ejaculation time.
Ayurvedic Herbs
Ayurvedic medicines that use medicinal herbs and polyherbal formulations are some of the most popular treatments for male sexual dysfunction with good reason. Rasayanas or rejuvenative herbs have been used since ancient times as a treatment for various ailments, including male sexual disorders. There is considerable evidence to support the use of specific Ayurvedic herbs.
Ashwagandha – Known for its testosterone boosting effect, ashwagandha has also been found to increase sperm count and motility. In addition, it boosts endurance and lowers stress levels, which can have a positive impact on premature ejaculation and performance.
Shilajit – Theoretically not a herb, but often listed as one, shilajit is a natural organic ingredient that exudes from rocks in certain regions like the Himalayan foothills. Modern studies have confirmed the ancient Ayurvedic texts that suggest it can boost male sexual health, raising testosterone levels, libido, fertility, and endurance.
Gotu Kola – This herb may not be as well-known as others, but it can help relieve sexual dysfunction depending on the underlying cause. It works primarily on the circulatory system, reducing decrease venous pressure and strengthening the blood vessels, which can in turn improve the strength and duration of erections.
Just remember that premature ejaculation can have a wide range of causes, including physical and psychological factors. For this reason, the efficacy of treatments can vary significantly. Moreover, Ayurvedic and other natural treatments require consistent use to shown any results. If the problem persists for months however, make sure to consult a reputed Ayurvedic physician for a more accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment.
