8 Monsoon Health Tips

Monsoon is the time of the year when we can all escape the summer heat. Some of us enjoy walking in the first rains while others may find the rain’s pitter-patter outside soothing to their soul. That said, the monsoon also brings its share of viruses, bacteria, and insects. So, here is a quick list of the 8 monsoon health tips that will help you stay healthy and well this monsoon.

1. Protect Yourself Against Mosquitoes

Use Mosquito Repellent

Stagnant water on the streets and at home make monsoon the season of mosquitoes. It’s best to be ready for them with mosquito repellent coils, oils, and sprays. Be sure to apply mosquito repellent before going outside to avoid getting bitten. You can also wear long-sleeved clothes to reduce the risk of being bitten.

2. Regularly Exercise At Home,

Exercises for weight loss & improve immunity

Exercising at home is a great way to promote weight loss and staying in shape during a time when many of us are working at home. Additionally, exercising regularly is known to help boost the immune system while triggering the release of “feel-good hormones,” or endorphins. It also helps balance your body's level of stress hormones. Great exercises to do at home include squats, jumping rope, burpees, and planks. A stationary bike or treadmill is also great for those who have them at home.

3. Eat Foods Rich In Vitamin C

Eat Foods Rich In Vitamin C

Vitamin C is well-known for its immunity-boosting benefits. It’s one of the reasons Vitamin C supplements are so popular these days. Similarly, since monsoon brings with it allergic reactions, viral infections, and fevers, it's best to boost your immunity with Vitamin C foods like green vegetables and sprouts. You can also consider taking immunity-boosting Ayurvedic products like Ayush Kwath and Imunoherb.

4. Avoid Eating Street Food

Avoid Street Food

Street food can be tasty and a great alternative to cooking most times. However, in the monsoon, eating street food can become a health risk you may end up regretting. Our roads are chockfull of potholes full of water, the perfect breeding ground for harmful microorganisms. So, the longer the street food is out in the open, the greater the chance it may have these microorganisms. So, one of the most important monsoon health tips is avoiding street food as this can end up with you contracting a viral infection or food poisoning.

5. Protect Yourself From Allergies

Protect Yourself From Allergies

Most people I know with moderate or severe allergies dislike the monsoon because of the allergies it brings with it. Fortunately, wearing an N-95 mask not only helps reduce the risk of COVID-19 but also allergies. If you are looking for an Ayurvedic solution to your allergies, talk to our Ayurvedic doctors online directly from home.

6. Get Plenty Of Rest

Sleep for boosting immunity

Working from home has resulted in many people having no work-life balance, leading to staying up late. Unfortunately, while this may improve productivity in the short run, you may cause harm to yourself by doing so. Getting enough sleep (7-8 hours) every night can help improve your immunity, making it less likely for you to catch a cold this monsoon.

7. Cleanse Your Fruits And Vegetables

fruit and vegetable wash

As mentioned earlier, microorganisms in the water can be harmful as they can cause water-borne illnesses. For your fruits and vegetables, be sure to wash them thoroughly, preferably with a herbal wash and cleanser that’s formulated specifically for safely cleaning fruits and vegetables like HerboCleanse. You should also only be eating cooked foods, reducing the risk of illness further.

8. Wash Your Hands Frequently

Herbal hand sanitizer

The pandemic has taught us the value of washing our hands thoroughly to prevent the spread of viruses. This principle also works for microbes and harmful germs that are common in the monsoon. So, practice good hand hygiene and you should be able to enjoy the monsoon without getting sick. While other hand sanitisers are made with chemicals that can harm the skin, Dr Vaidyas HerboCleanse Plus is a herbal hand sanitiser that is made with natural ingredients like Aloe vera and Neem.
